Comfy Master Bedrooms

Today on the blog we're about all things restful, soft, and welcoming - this is our ode to comfy master bedrooms. Historically, bedroom trends haven't always centered around comfort. Look no further than those formal 50's era single beds or the bizarre waterbed craze of 70's and 80's.

Current master bedroom style focuses much more on creating a balance of sophistication and serenity. Our clients want a peaceful getaway, a private haven that recharges them after a busy day. This call for relaxing spaces often means simple is best. Colors, textures, finishes, and architectural elements all filter through this lens of comfort.

The centerpiece of these blissful bedrooms is a big, beautiful bed. From there, plenty of bright natural daylight and a cozy nighttime reading nook are both necessities. After that, it's all about personal taste. Maybe you need an extra lounging area for lazy mornings or an elegant decked-out vanity for weekend primping.

If you're dreaming about giving your master bedroom a fresh look, look no further than our clients' stunning spaces. Each of these lovely bedrooms below is sure to provide ample design inspiration!

Spring Parade Home: Parkside Cottage

Spring Parade Model #433 - 5928 Oaklawn Avenue, Edina
February 24th through March 25th – Noon-6 pm Thursday through Sundays

The weather is starting to thaw, and Minnesotan's are getting antsy, which means it's time for the Spring Parade of Homes. Sure, snow may still cover the ground for weeks (or months), but that doesn't have to inhibit us from getting out and having some fun!

If design-gazing and urban exploring happen to be your idea of an afternoon well spent, then might we suggest visiting Parade Model #433? This lovely five-bedroom, five-bathroom Edina home is the perfect blend of warm cottage style, unique finishes, and a touch of trends.

The moment you walk through the front door, effortless elegance and bright natural light welcome you. However, the real star of the main level is the gourmet kitchen - followed closely by the stately study or organized, shiplap-covered mudroom.

Upstairs, the master suite feels more like a charming B&B than a bedroom. From the oversized, spa-style shower to the Juliet balcony overlooking nearby Pamela Park, calling it an everyday getaway is an understatement. Down the hall, the whole family can make use of the open, multipurpose craft room/homework hub/play area/upstairs lounge - the sky's the limit!

Honestly, we could go on at length about this beautiful family home, but why continue when you could just see it for yourself? Consider yourself invited to stop by, ask questions, open cabinets, and see what we've been up to all winter!

Introducing Trees from REFINED

Trees-from-REFINED.jpg

Spring is on its way (we hope!), which means sunny skies, green grass, and lush trees will soon fill our Minnesota landscape. Each year, arguably one of the best parts of the change from winter to spring is the day when the trees are all covered with leaves once again.

They may be easy to take for granted, but trees are a vital element of any thriving community. Trees provide clean air, cool shade, unparalleled natural beauty, and neighborhood charm. However, this important resource won't renew itself without our investment, which is why we've decided to take action and launch Trees from REFINED.

This new Edina tree giving program seeks to renew our community canopy by replenishing those lost each year. By joining together to take action with our friends at Southview Design, we hope to benefit coming generations, beautify our neighborhoods, and preserve our natural canopy - one tree at a time.

Our mission is to create a thriving network of donated and planted new trees in our community. Want to learn more about this new program or get involved? Please visit our website to get all of the details you'll need about our process and vision. We can't wait to get our hands dirty and plant some beautiful new trees this spring!

A Relaxing Night In

January in the Midwest isn't the reason why people live here. Minnesota isn't exactly known as a mid-winter vacation destination, unless you're all about sub-zero temps, slushy streets, and limited daylight.

So, how do we make the most of the long winter evenings? What can we do to encourage meaningful family time instead of settling for another night spent on our devices or the next Netflix binge?

If you're fighting cabin fever and are tired of the same old routine, read our ideas for enjoying a relaxing evening in. And please, share your own brilliant plans below - we'd love to hear them!

Family Cookoff
If cooking shows are your family's jam, then why not get in on the fun yourselves? Create a few teams and compete to make the best homemade pizza combinations, divide up an elaborate four-course meal among the entire family, find a challenging new recipe to make with your favorite home chef, or ask the kids what dishes they'd like to learn to cook.

Spa Night
Spa time may be more of a grown-up's idea of relaxing, but honestly, who doesn't love a little pampering? Take turns giving each other backrubs, foot massages, painting nails, playing with hair, wearing face masks, or soaking in a warm bath. Be sure to set the scene with low lighting, candles, scented essential oils, and fun reading material!

Fancy Movie Premiere
We're not talking about an ordinary family movie night; this should be an all-out elegant premiere. Write or print invites to pass out to the family, tell everyone to dress their best and have them walk the red carpet, and set up a concession stand with everyone's favorite sweet and savory snacks. Bonus points if you pick a new movie that no one in the fam has seen yet!

Have a Craft Party
Pick a comfortable spot to get cozy and maybe a little messy, and start making stuff! Stock up on painting supplies or kids and adult coloring books, learn to knit or sew, or build old-school model airplanes or clay monsters. It doesn't matter what projects you pick, it's just about spending time being creative and learning together.
